eastwood, 31 mayıs 1930 san francisco doğumlu. bir çelik işçisi babanın oğlu olarak hayata geldi, 1950'li yıllarda b sınıfı filmlerde haftalık 75 dolarlık bir ücretle yan karakterleri oynadı. bazı stüdyolar, adem elmasının çok çıkık olduğu gerekçesiyle kendisine rol vermediler. eastwood, oyunculuk konusundaki kararlılığını koruyarak ve oynadığı filmlerden arta kalan zamanlarında yüzme havuzları için çukur kazarak hayatını devam ettirdi. ilk çıkışını, 1959-1966 yılları arasında yayınlanan rawhide adlı tv dizisindeki rowdy yates karakterini canlandırarak yaptı.

1980'li yıllarda, iyi yapımlarda oynamış olmasına rağmen, önceki yıllar kadar büyük çıkışlar yapamadı. ama 1990'ların başında, gerek yönettiği, gerekse oynadığı filmlerle sinema dünyasına yeni sürprizler kazandırdı. 1992'de yönettiği ve oynadığı unforgiven adlı film ile en iyi yönetmen oscar'ını kazandı ve en iyi aktör ödülüne aday gösterildi.
eastwood bu güne kadar, 60'dan fazla film ve tv yapımında oynamış, 30 film yönetmiş, 25 filmin yapımcılığını üstlenmiş, 10 filmin müziklerini bestelemiş ve soundtrack'lerine imza atmıştır.
